Timothy Batzel, '24 BS Finance & Business Analytics

Tim is a senior in the Whitman School of Management pursuing a double major in Finance and Business Analytics, with a minor in Economics. After discovering his passion for stock market investing in high school, he began managing his own portfolio. This led to him receiving an internship at Biondo Investments Group. In this role, he was responsible for researching potential equity investments, compiling his work into a compact report, and sitting with the firm’s head analyst to discuss his findings. This experience confirmed his love for the financial industry. He enjoys playing soccer, snowboarding, and spending time with his family. He’s also a huge New England Patriots fan. Tim’s dream is to be a financial advisor and help hardworking folks make educated investment decisions.

Haig Chakamian, ’24 BS Finance & Business Analytics

Haig is a Senior Analyst at Orange Value Fund, studying Finance and Business Analytics at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, with minors in Information Management and Technology & Sociology. Haig’s passion for business stemmed from his involvement in DECA in high school and investing during the pandemic. His’s ambition and experience in financial markets led to his appointment as President of SU Investment Club and his upcoming summer internship in PGIM’s Investment Management group. Also, he is a member of Delta Sigma Pi, an Assembly member in the Student Association, and a Whitman Ambassador. Haig hopes that his desire for learning and helping others will cultivate a successful career in the financial services industry.

Nick Jessop, '24 BS Finance and Real Estate

Nick Jessop is a senior from Rye, New York. He is currently pursuing a dual major in Finance and Real Estate. Nick’s passion for investing spawned from his founding of his high school’s stock market competition and his interest in statistics. Currently, he is serving as an executive board member of the Syracuse University Investment Club where he is responsible for a portion of the club’s equity portfolio. He also led the Syracuse University Undergraduate team in the CFA Equity Research Competition, which consisted of a long from research report and an eventual pitch. Outside of Whitman, he serves as the Social Chairman of his fraternity. For the summer of 2022, Nick will be completing an internship FourWorld Capital, a hedge fund that focuses on special legal events in the financial world. As the academic year approaches, Nick greatly anticipates the beginning of his time in the Orange Value Fund.

Dylan France, '24 BS Finance

Dylan is a senior majoring in Finance at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, with a minor in Global Political Economy at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. She is a member of the Renee Crown Honors Program, the Black Honor Society, the Whitman Leadership Scholars Program, and the WellsLink Leadership Program. Her passion for finance stemmed from participating in Mergers and Acquisition competitions throughout high school. She fell in love with understanding the global circulation of capital and the impacts of MNC activity from different discipline’s approaches. Outside of being a Junior Analyst for the Orange Value Fund, Dylan is an active member of the Syracuse Student Association and was recently elected to the Syracuse University Board of Trustees as an Undergraduate Representative. She also holds Student Association positions as the Whitman Assembly Representative and a Finance Board member. Dylan is also a founding member and Secretary of the Syracuse Black Student Union. Dylan has held many internships across disciplines interning at Apple, Youth About Business, EPIC Brokers and Consultants, and Galway Holdings. This summer, Dylan will be interning with Ernst and Young as a Launch Intern. Dylan hopes that her experiences in various fields of business and finance will help to develop the skills necessary to pursue a career as an Investment Banker.

Samuel Iven, '24 BS Finance and Marketing

Sam is a senior in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management double majoring in finance and real estate. A Syracuse native, Sam grew up playing sports, which he credits to him becoming a high-achieving and motivated team player who thrives in fast-paced environments. His entrepreneurial energy and curiosity for learning fueled his passion for finance and the markets from a young age. At Syracuse, Sam’s passion deepened when he attended the Whitman on Wall Street program, where he saw what it was like to work in the financial industry. His sophomore spring, he interned at a local boutique Wealth Management Firm in Syracuse called Dunuwila Wealth Management. In addition to being a Junior Analyst in the Orange Value Fund, he is deeply involved in the professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi where he was the Head Chairman of Professional Events. He is also a member of the Syracuse University Investment Club, Real Estate Club, and a Whitman Peer Mentor. This summer, Sam looks forward to working in commercial real estate leasing and development with JF Real Estate. Sam has a drive for helping others and giving back, and he believes the Orange Value Fund will give him the foundation necessary to achieve these goals through the financial industry.

Jasmine McPartland, '24 BS Finance and Accounting

Jasmine is a senior majoring in Finance and Accounting at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, with a minor in Economics at the School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Her passion for finance stemmed from the required introduction to a finance course while she was beginning to manage a portfolio of her own. At Syracuse, Jasmine demonstrates leadership as a Whitman Peer Mentor and treasurer positions for the Student Association of SU and ESF, and the Nutrition Education and Promotion Association. She is always looking to apply empirically what she learns in class to her life while helping friends and family make stock investment decisions and to her role of regulating the PacSun store that she works at. Jasmine plans to use the experience and skills taught through Orange Value Fund as a foundation for her career in the financial services industry.

Conor Murphy, '24 BS Finance, Accounting, and Entrepreneurship

Conor Murphy is a senior in the Whitman School of Management majoring in Finance, Accounting, and Entrepreneurship. He has always pictured himself going into the financial services industry due to his analytical way of thinking and his comfortability with numbers, but it wasn’t until his sophomore year when he was able to take his first 3 finance courses that he realized his passion for the field. He spent his sophomore spring semester as a data analytics intern at CH Insurance, where he relied on his analytical and Excel skills to produce statistical overviews of the sales and marketing teams. This summer, he will be working as an asset management intern at Crescent Capital in Boston, MA, where he will be working in the direct lending division and gaining experience with credit ratings, financial statement forecasting, and DCF and LBO modelling. He plans to use his skillsets from both of these roles to be a successful analyst for the Orange Value Fund, and hopes that this will help prepare him for a successful career in the financial services.

William (Tage) Oster Jr., '24 BS Finance, Business Analytics

Tage is a Senior in the Whitman School of Management pursuing three majors in Finance, EEE and Economics. Tage first began exploring finance after receiving a book on investments from an older relative. Ever since, he has been fascinated by the field and began researching the industry on his own.

Inside the Whitman School of Management, Tage serves as the team leader of Kenya Immersion Experience Trip and is a former President of Enactus. Outside the academic sphere, he is the Executive Vice President of the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and also sits on the executive board for his specific fraternity chapter: Theta Chi. He looks forward to furthering his knowledge within the investments field as well as building a skillset that will lead to a successful career in Finance.

Paula Ostrowska, '24 BS Finance and Accounting

Paula is a senior at the Whitman School of Management, majoring in Finance and Accounting while pursuing a minor in Sport Management at Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. Her passion for numbers began in elementary school and developed through her mathematics and economics courses. She hopes to bring her passion for sport and numbers together in the future. Outside of the classroom, Paula serves as the Vice President for WISE (Women in Sports and Events) and the Secretary for Beta Alpha Psi, the finance and accounting professional fraternity. She also volunteers as a WhiTax volunteer and Whitman Peer Mentor. Paula is looking forward to developing and expanding her skills through the Orange Value Fund program, preparing for a career in financial services.

David Plotkin, '24 BS Finance and Business Analytics

David is a senior pursuing a double major in Finance, Business Analytics, and a minor in Computer Science at the Whitman School of Management. Originally from a small country in the gray economic area of Europe, Latvia, David’s passions include learning and acquiring new experience by trading stocks, bonds, options, futures, forex, and reaching out to people who have substantial knowledge in finance. Additionally, in his free time David likes working with numbers, reading books, and self-educating himself. His Finance path started in his junior year of high school back in 2020. Through chess tournaments, he met grandmaster Henry who worked at the New York Stock Exchange during the 2008 crash. He also met his academic dean who used to work for the London Stock Exchange back in 90’s. The Academic dean and Mr. Henry were able to explain basic analysis of Financial Statements, investing, company valuations, and watching/analyzing macro trends in order to show how currency and commodities work. At Syracuse University, David is involved in diversity and inclusion; by being part of European Student Association, and holds Fix Income position in Syracuse University Investment Club E-board. David also has a passion in mentoring. He welcomes students to ask questions related to course criteria, and is dependable and happy to aid in student learning.
